Excellent, informative and fun
I read this book on a wet weekend in June 1999. In the absence of anything more interesting to do, I tried some of the exercises. Unbelievably they worked, I'm a dowser, albeit an indoor dowser. This book is fun, informative, well written and I still have'nt recovered from the fact that anyone can dowse. It's fun, give it a try.

:)
Carolyn Trent discovers money missing out of her savings account. Bank Manager, Cody Hendricks is determined to find the person responsible for the missing money. Carolyn's cousin Lori Porter handles all of the accounts for the Circle T Ranch. Cody starts dating Lori and discovers all sorts of things about some tellers that work for him. From that information he is sure that he knows who the embezzler is. Of course Lori is royally ticked off when she thinks that Cody dated her only to get information from her.

Cody's feelings for Lori stay pretty much the same throughout the story. Lori's feelings for Cody, however, are like a roller coaster ride. Lori constantly doubts Cody and that makes me question her feelings for him. Although Lori and Cody are the primary characters there were also many others, like the lazy drifter Luke Harte and the bank teller Mary Alice, who play big roles in this book. There are also many characters from previous books that reappear. Including a very pregnant Cynthia, who brings a new baby to the McKinney clan toward the end of the book. This is a good addition to the Crystal Creek series.

Field Guide to Snow Crystals
Published in Paperback by Intl Glaciological Society (July, 2001)
Author: Edward R. Lachapelle
Average review score:

A Close Look at Snow and Snowflakes
While working on avalanche research in the 1950's, Edward Chapelle discovered that the variation in snow crystal forms influences the occurrence of avalanches. This discovery led him to write this "Field Guide to Snow Crystals" to explain the basics of snow crystal identification and metamorphism to interested laypersons. In this case, "snow crystal" includes what is commonly called a "snowflake". So if you are interested in understanding snowflakes, this book is for you. The field guide has three parts. The first section addresses the identification of snow crystals. There are charts which allow the reader to identify any snow crystal (or snowflake) that he finds. And there is an explanation of how and why snow crystals form. The second part of the book explains how to photograph a snow crystal, which might be of interest to photographers specializing in close-up work as well as snowflake enthusiasts. The third and final section of the book contains 50 photographs of snow crystals, which illustrate discussions of what happens to snow as it falls and as it sits on the ground under various conditions. The metamorphism which causes snow crystals to alter their form as they lie on or under the surface of snow is both pictured and described in detail. The differences between snow, hoar, and rime are also pictured and described so that the reader can easily differentiate between them. I have only a casual interest in snowflakes, and I enjoyed this book. It made me think about the variety of forms I have seen snow take, and now I understand what I was looking at. My only criticism of this "Field Guide to Snow Crystals" is that it lacks a glossary of terms. New terms are explained as they arise, but a glossary in the back of the book would have been a helpful quick reference. I would recommend the "Field Guide to Snow Crystals" to skiers, mountain climbers, snow rangers, and anyone who has an interest in better understanding snow or snowflakes. The book is 6x8 inches in size and 101 pages long.

The Flight of the Feathered Serpent

This Got Me Started!
It is said that one doesn't so much pick a Tarot deck as it picks you. To add to that, often getting one is like getting a car without the manual. This is one of those times. This is the companion book for the Xultun Tarot deck. Although Peter Balin deals with two distinctly alien cosmologies, the Western Esosteric Tradition and the Mayan Tradition, he uses the structure of the Tarot to weave them together without it becoming an eclectoplasmic pastiche. This was my first real introduction to the mythology of the native peoples of the Meso-American region and it is a great primer also on the basics of their numerology, totems, mystic terms, and icons. He has done good research although he often lapses into romanticizing the Maya, he nonetheless acquits himself of the kind of cultural pillaging and dubious credentials of such as Carlos Castaneda and Lynn V. Andrews. He also adds his opinions on organized religion, sexuality, and the enigmatic legacy the Maya left. A very good read!

A field trip of historic mineral sites of Earth
This is a big book, 9" by 11" by 1" thick in hardcover, of 488 glossy pages with both a general index and a mineral index.

This is a pictorial and textual "field trip" book of history and historical mining sites from all over the Earth. This features 100 of the world's classic crystals producing localities. Each site is accompanied by a text containing historical lore, and by multitudes ofold and new b&w photos, 667 of them, accompanied by many color photographs of crystal and gem treasures, each in its proper site.

A map in the back shows where the sites are, and a bibliography referring to each site, or chapter, with usually 2 references to each.

For the enthusiast of mineral history this work is just about invaluable. -DM

Gems of the 7 Color Rays: A Comprehensive Guide to Healing With Gems
Published in Paperback by Llewellyn Publications (June, 2003)
Author: William C. Stuber
Average review score:

An interactive, intuitive approach!
Even though this technique is a little more advanced to do for a "green-novice", I have to say that I really enjoyed this book! It was nice to get a book that concentrated on the use of "personal intution" using the colors vibrational qualities. Plus, the act of doing intuitive "readings" before the "laying-on" of the stones was a refreshing way to interact in the healing process. More information is recieved "from" the stones prior to the use of them makes the "laying-on" technique much more effective for pin-pointed areas! Furthermore, there are three different worksheets for stone readings/healings to use in the back for tracking. If you're a serious stone/gem healer...this should be added to your library!

Gemstone Journeys
Published in Paperback by An Out of This World Production (01 November, 2002)
Authors: Shelley Kaehr and Gary Fleck
Average review score:

A Vibrant Universe is Alive & Well!
Finally, a book on gemstones and healing that goes beyond mere descriptions and remedies. This book has the most vivid and clear photography I've ever seen on crystals. In addition to that, Dr. Shelley Kaehr does a remarkable job in sharing with the reader her "experience" of working with these gems of Mother Gaia. This is not another clinical treatise on the subject, Dr. Kaehr strikes gold again with another excellent adventure!
